Default Lone Ranger- need your advice...

I know this may stupid but none the less I really do not want to ruin a brand new engine. I put a new crate engine, 1988, Mercruiser 350, 270 hp in my boat and finally got everything done. Now when I go to start it up for the first time should I pull my distributer and spin the oil pump to pump up the lifters and put some oil in the cylinders before I crank it over or do they really have lubrication in a new engine coming direct from the factory? Any and all advice is appreciated.
    Thank you, Bob

Bob,Best way is to pull the Distributor and turn the pump til you get oil pressure. They have a Tool to put in and drive it by a Drill. But,you could just disconnect the coil [Positive Wire] and crank it over till you get oil pressure in a pinch. And the reason I say disconnect the Coil and not just pull the coil wire is that you don't want to accidently have any stray sparks around in case some Fuel fumes may be present!!

Thank you for your fast reply! I have a straight slot screwdriver that has the handle cut off for spinning an oil pump. But your way will save me alot of work. I do like your idea of pulling the positive wire off due to sparks. Also should I pull the spark plugs to relieve all compression? Thank you again, Bob

Would be alot easier cranking over..less load on the bearings I suppose also.
