No complaints here. I have been getting all that I need. Overall I would say it is better than past years.
Crabbing is DOWN for me compared to the last few years
Crabbing is UP for me compared to the last few years
Crabbing is ABOUT THE SAME for me compared to the last few years
I was talking to some commercial crabbers today on the eastern shore and the consensus is that crabbing is down overall in and around Maryland'd Mid Bay Chesapeake Bay area. I found it a little surprising given we had the press release from MD DNR at the beginning of the year touting how good the results were from the winter dredge survey. However, the numbers do not lie, prices are way up on on a bushel basis at wholesale/retail and the numbers of bushels coming in on the commercial boats are probably half what they were in the last previous years.
I am curious what everything thinks based on your experience crabbing this year in Maryland's Chesapeake Bay.
Please vote, the results will be interesting for all of us.

To early for that question, wait for November.
So far it seems to be a little slower.
Plenty for me. I think the demand is up. I am always sold out.

POKE HIM IN THE EYE!! POKE HIM IN THE EYE!!
Much worse on the Patapsco.
Has been slow for potters. Just starting to pickup well in the south. North has been really slow with running 200 pots with 4 baskets mixed to show.
A slow June for me. Out 3 times with 3/4 bu, 1 1/2 bu and 1/2 bu. Last year was 2 bu every trip. I have heard slow from others in the South, West and Rhode River areas as well....................Gary
Every rose has it's thorns.
Its has been a little bit off/slow,but it also seems the size and quality has been a little better. Last year the big storms really threw things off, it seems that not that many crabs made it past the Bay Bridge migrating up into the rivers like most years. On another note I think the so called derdge survey is a little off because the crabs were a little more concentrated in the areas of the survey(south). That is just my opinion, I am not an "Old Salt" by any means.![]()
