Congrats on the paper and the release Beth, sounds like you had a blast. If my rods and reels start talking to me, Donna will force me to change my medication. LOL
Wes, Kevin and I headed out to the Chesapeake bay, despite the 106 heat index, we decided to go cobia fishing. As I loaded my van , I swear my old tld 25 was talking to me and begging me to take it. I had not used this 30 lb mono set up for almost 2 years, but the feeling was so strong that in the van it went. Even still as I rigged the line with a fish finder rig,8/0 hook, and 8 oz sinker, the rod and reel had a strong aura so I mentioned it to Kevin and Wes that I thought this was the rod that would get the cobia. I applied a croaker and threw the line in the water.
Within a few minutes we had a fiesty sharks hit on some of the eels and croaker on the other braided lines. Two hours & 6 sharks later ..ZZZZZZZZZZZZ my tld 25!! I ran over and grabbed the rod. The line was going crazy! Holy shikes was I excited! The cobia broke the surface of the water and pummeled down again. About 15 minutes into the fight, Kevin yells over to Wes and I he sees 2 cobia! We discovered the larger of the two was on my line. The fish continued to make its way around the boat. Wes and Kevin un- anchored. I continued to crank. This crazy fish proceeds then to pull us over a mile away and the little fish never leaving sight of the big fish. The fight lasted 40 minutes. We boat the fish. Wes measured the fish flat on the boat at 53 inches. He estimated the weight to be 55 to 60 lbs. He asked me do you want to keep it for a weight or release it? I thought about the little fish. Never once did it leave her side. I knew what I must do so the fish was tagged and off it went to fulfill her mama duties .. We then drove back to our location set up the lines and again it happened within minutes of anchoring, zzzzzz the line takes off, we see the cobia break the water and then snap, the line broke at my knot. We stuck around for a little while longer caught a few more sharks and then headed to the launch. On the way home, I thought about that mama and that little fish. I smiled. A special thank you to Wes for taking us out to fish for cobia.. You truly are amazing when it comes to this fish. The trips and long hours put into catching these fish by anchoring does pay off. You 'the bomb' !!

You earned that one after the conditions we fished in on previous trips. Thanks for the compliment. I had a great time fishing with you and Kevin. It was a lot of fun watching and being part of someone else catch a great fish, which is kind of a new thing for me.
WTG!
Great job.
Pretty work Beth, Kevin, and Wes congrats on the cobes. And kudos on you for releasing her back to her little one. good things are coming your way...

Nice. So the big fish are on the bottom is what I'm gathering? Sightcasting is producing 6:1 rat to keeper results. What's the key to this bottom fishing/chum game?
Thanks for the report beth
