    Default Choptank River

After waiting all of May and early June for the crabbing to start, then enjoying a week of good crabbing, I am now wondering where they all went. I get to go out often, and in the last 3 times I could put all my catch in a half bushel. And I'm not the only one either. I have talked to a few boaters at the ramp and they can't believe they go out with a trotline and only catch 4 crabs. Or a dozen.

Tuesday was a special day. I layed out my line and after a hour I only had 6 or 8 crabs so I thought I would drag my line. I tried changing the angle and it was working..... until I hit a patch of mud. I thought I had snagged something it stopped me so fast. So I decided to pull up. I moved across the river to another spot I like crabbing and on the second run I hit a snag. Luckily I got the boat stopped before it broke my PVC prop stick.

By this time it was at least 12 o'clock, about 90 something degrees and I had maybe 10 crabs. I ended up giving them to another family at the ramp who did as poorly as me.

Well I just needed to vent about my luck lately :-) and I hope you all are slamming them. Just don't try the upper Choptank right now.................

They are eating the bait, just not coming up. Maybe the temp change is so much that the warmer upper colume is knocking them off. Who knows......
