    Default EB 7/2 solo fun

Worked the holiday so this report is a little long in the tooth, whatever. Made it out a tad later than hoped for, about 7am Monday, after I noticed the forward running light was out and had to change out the bulb. Was solo as usual and the heat was on the way, but a morning breeze took the edge off. Out of the South River, nosed around Rhode River Green #1 and spotted a few marks but decided to keep going SE. Ran into a cluster of charters and a few private boats in relatively shallow water off NW edge of Poplar on the Hill. Most were anchored up, a few trolling thru and since I wasn't into dropping the hook or dodging around the crowd by my lonesome, decided to head up the EB toward Crab Alley.

Wasn't much visible action along the way, but was enjoying the ride when I decided to try a few drifts over structure off a point, and bingo, the meter lit up. Had three rigs at the ready: a hot-rodded chart 3/4oz 6" BKD, a silver hopkins shorty on spinning rig, and a jig combo: gold stingsilver with a minnow dropper fly. Everything was catching, a few birds even showed up to add atmosphere, trouble was almost all takers were schoolies. Almost, cause after much pullage & a number of dink doubles, the good ole hopkins delivered 21" and 23" keepers. Nothing to crow about, no pics, but a suitable dinner.

To my good fortunate, the breeze picked up a bit and kept things very comfortable for an early afternoon ride in… all and all a nice day

I ran around Eastern Bay this morning. I found all the small rockfish I wanted, but was unable to find the big ones. It was a great day on the water -- it didn't even feel too hot out there.
