There is some real nasty stuff floating down the river that I have seen near Point of Rocks. It almost appears to be human decayed poop covered with green algae but it smells slightly like cattle waste. It has been drifting down for about a week.

This happened two years ago as well. It looks completely unhealthy to be on the river.

Please note that I also checked the Shenandoah river upstream (near Berryville VA) of Point of Rock and the water looked fine. The Monocacy downstream also looked fine today.

Can you please tell me what this stuff is?

Beyond that, the water has been clear and the fishing was fine.
