    Default Ragged Point Area

Hey guys, we do alot of fishing in the ragged point area on the lower potomac. This year we have caught a million dinky rockfish but no keepers. Usually we jig the rockpile/platform but have only caught 10-17" rocks and snapper blues. The breaking fish have been even smaller. Livelining also has onlly produced dinks. Where are the keeper rocks at? Have any of you guys been catching them? If so how and where? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I found the same thing fishing in the Coles point / Ragged Point area. I decided to try trolling at a faster speed hoping to catch Blues but on every turn I would catch 3 small stripers (had 3 light rods out). Nothing over 12" in size. Hopefully we will see some larger fish soon. Croaker fishing at night was good though. Wish I could be some help but I'm thinking about heading farther down river next time.

Thanks MidloGlen. The last time we were down there was 7/5. We caught dinks trolling, jigging, chunking and fly fishing poppers. We did catch very large perch during the day and croaker at night. We also caught some snapper blues casting spoons into ripping current. Some of the perch were pushing 13". But thanks for you reply.

Just my observation in this area, everything but the perch seem smaller this summer but lots of small rock, blues, and croaker. Probably a great sign but croaker bigger than 12 inches are hard to find even at night.

We caught 50 13-17" croaker at night. The tide had just died but they were still biting because it was night. They were still biting when we left.
