As much as I would like to see the bay cleaned up, shouldn't farmers be practicing good conservation for the billions of dollars they are already receiving from their neighbors in the form of welfare or as they like to call it government programs. There is a site on the web which lists the farm subsidies and it is amazing the amount of our hard earned taxes they receive. I would tell them clean up your mess or no more welfare.

I was going to add that to my post t as well. I am sure that some farmers don't get subsidies and some really don't know how much their farm runoff effects the bay. So whatever resources that the Clean Water Act can help with I am for it. The other big polluter is our waste treatment facilities. That is a huge problem that will require more tax payer dollars. Same idea. Clean up your on sh** without messing up anything else. We have a long way to go...

    Thanks for responding.

In the last 15 years we have provided welfare, excuse me I mean subsidies to over 54,800 farms in Virginia. I had no idea there was even close to that many farms in Virginia. We can't be missing many of them. The biggest ones at the trough have received millions each and some have numerous farms so you have to do a little math for their total take. Again hold the welfare over their heads for good conservation practices. We don't have the money to buy King Ranch Pickups for farmers so they will do what they should.
