Making lead weights

i bet i got a wheelbarrow full of store bought sinkers from 1/2 ounce up to 80 oz... YES 5 pound sinker..... remember back when i was famous i fished 6 days a week, owned 3 boats, mated on 2 charters and ran the Crab Creek Fly & Tackle shop in 2 places on Shore Drive in Va Beach ....

not to mention 500 pounds of lead that came out of the RaceCar ...

I haven`t tried this, but I have been told if you take an old skill saw blade and turn it around
backwards it will cit your blocks down to size without clogging up the blade. I`m going to try this, but not until it cools down..I`ve got 3 4x4"x3ft blocks I need to cut down to melt.

I have done that when cutting aluminum and it worked. Still havent melted mine yet. Will report when I do.

Started making lead heads and cannon ball weights this weekend. The blocks of 40 lb. lead melted right in the dutch oven cast iron pot I bought after a couple of major spills on the driveway. The pot tipped over off the tripod when the the lead started to melt down and the weight balance shifted . Not to worry, we readjusted the balance of the block and she melted right down. Got some nice flounder jig heads and really nice hooks combos. Gonna pour some more later. (still picking the lead off the driveway and speck it'll be an all fall long job.)

I used a cast iron frying pan, put the 35 lb block in the pan outside on a single electric burner, go eat dinner and by then it is a puddle of lead, dip in a ladle and pure in mold. pop open. Well I had to use a c clamp to tighten up the palmer molds. buy a 100 hooks, pour 100 jigs. Sell mold back on ebay. sweet! deal. Hard to find good hooks for a decent price. like the do it molds the best . still had to use c clamp on some.

Don't get too high tech, think cave man, chop hunks off the block with a hatchet.

Did just that same thing ticktock only I used a cast iron large pot that melted a 40lb block. Laddled it out and poured into the molds and poped them right out. Keeping the mold for more pours and selling some jigs to the bait and tackle shop to recoop the initial costs. I like the Do-It mold best too.
