We've had real good perchin in the creek this year.
DEEEElighted!
Went perch fishing yesterday in a couple creeks on the lower Pax and caught a few Red fish and there are getting bigger. Had to work for the perch but caught some real nice ones up to 11/12". Kept 22 with about 8 being in the 11" range.Beetle spins #2 blade with 1/8 jig head and bass assassins in candy corn. Not bad for about 2 hours fishing. Right at dark tried a top water spot with no luck.

Retired to Palm Beach Florida fishing offshore out of a 27 ft. custom Blackhawk CC twin 200 etecs. My heart is still in lower Dorchester county, miss my ersters and crabs, don't miss the skeeters.
I caught this little guy near the jetty, next to Hemingway's.
Chesapeake Fish and Beer
The same thing happened years ago in all the rivers and back bays of North and south Carolina. They started out with juvenikle pups and in a few y ears there were plenty of 20 plus inch Redfish showing up. They must be spawning in the Pax and lower Potomac. Years ago there were 5/10 lb Reds hanging out at the Hoopers island bridge. Good management in the southern states with slot limits has let them increase their range.

Most of the lower Potomac creeks now have a good population of the pup reds. They are a lot of fun with light and UL tackle. In another month or so we should begin seeing their grown up kin. Last year late summer early fall there was a decent pick of trophy size reds in the Smith Point area. Great surprise if you were targeting other species and able to chance upon one of these schools. With the high salinity dont see why this year shouldn't be the same or better than last year.
Man, it sounds like these guys are working their way up Maryland's Chesapeake. This is cool stuff![]()
