    Default Mackenna jane Report

We fished last Friday.......for about 30 minutes... and the charter begged me to take them home after 5 of 6 were as sick as I have ever seen anyone on my boat....I took the weekend off as i am not a big fan of tournaments and Spent the weekend commerical crabbing.

We fished again yesterday and caught 12 tuna in just a couple of hours. We certainly could have caught more but enough is enough and the charter agreed so we were able to come home early. One of our yellowfin did tip the scales at 79 lbs which is the largest caught at Sunset Marina this year. A couple of pics below.

We had a double cancellation for Thursday and Friday due to a serious health issue of one of my customers. If anyone is interested in either creating a makeup charter for Friday or chartering the whole boat let me know. Thanks

Jerry, did you troll or chunk those tuna up ? Curious because I have heard two stories about Mondays bite concerning you the Marli and the Osprey

Tuna 55. All 3 boats chunked.
We picked up with fish still swarming the transom. It was a nice change of pace. I (we) prefer to troll because of the diversity of what you can catch (..I know people have hooked different species chunking, but that's not the norm. I still want to catch that elusive Mermaid on the troll!) BUT, it is still pretty cool to have big tuna fish swimming through the chuck baits and reeling in fish with no help from the boat/chair. I wish we didn't have the cancellations because the fishing has been as good as the people we have had on the boat!
Coverup: it was nice having Jerry on the "lower level" helping out! Less yelling......:)

Agreed. We will also probably switch to the darkside and chunk until they are gone or we are sick of tuna. It's probably impossible to do this with everyone on the hook but I was wondering if anyone had success trolling split billed nakeds on long light leaders at slow speeds when these fish are seeming to prefer what the chunkers are doing rather than the trollers. If they are biting jigs, live spot, ling, etc why wouldn't they respond to a slower more natural bait. It does seem like the trollers that stick around and can make passes over the hill are getting tuna bites as well as gaffers and whites.

    Good report and pics.

We need 3 more for a make up charter for Friday. The first 3 are waiting to find out if Friday is a go.
Coveredup- I spent many hours staring at the square end. It was nice to get off the bridge. Doug andd I are a pretty good team in the BACK of the boat toooo.
