    Default Birds, Birds, Breaking Stripers

My 6 yr old son and I headed out for a particular location and on the way we ran right smack into birds diving on the surface picking up what the stripers were crushing. Stripers were everywhere bust'n the surface. Only one other boat was on the spot at the same time we were. We just carefully worked the school for a good while on BKD's and a white custom wooden surface popper. This popper is really cool. I had my buddy at Striper Life design it with just one eye facing down and a fly feather on the tail, worked perfect. Stripers in this school ranged from the teens in size on the surface to 24" to 28" lower in the school in about 30ft. This was my sons first time working fish on the surface in a feeding frenzy like this. He won't forget this trip ! One or two more fish throughout the day, small no slot fish so we headed back to the SP Park. Just as we got close to the bridge in front of the park we saw birds again diving on the surface among a few yakers. We started working the school and this time all the fish were in the teens. Small but fun and a great way to end the day.

    Nice day. Breakers are fun.

That is really a great idea about the eye placement. Nothing says crippled fish like one swimming on its side, eye down. I LIKE IT.
