I respectfully disagree, Captain. It sounds to me like you're trying to help your buddy's bottom lines. One thing you have done is illuminate the problem with cleaning up the Chesapeake - nobody wants to pay when it affects them personally.

I think Capt Deering's comment was meant to be a sarcastic reference to Obamacare and a democrat senator's ( maybe a representative- I don't remember who said it) comment to pass it first, then we can read it.

I might have misunderstood. I like Captain Deering, I just don't have much patience with those who are trying to undermine the EPA's efforts to clean up the Bay no matter what side of the political spectrum. Democrats blame Republicans and Republicans blame Democrats and nothing gets done because, when it comes right down to it, nobody wants to pony up and take responsibility.

this proposal to me is .........over regulation by the federal govt. i'm not trying to help anybodys bottom line, mr. kimbro.

its intent as i read; it is .............sweeping and it covers all charter boats regardless of size. many charters, especially in the south are boats less than 25', what kind of nasty stuff could they have in the bilge.

i'm all for cleaning up the bay...........a good starting point would be local and state govt's. that somehow dump millions of gallons of crap in the bay every year. in addition, do you have any idea how many federal installations have polluted the ground they were built on.

my recommendation is to work on the economy and stop all diversionary tactics with over-regulation and voter rights bs. etc. etc.

    Anyone else a little confused?
If I read this right, If this bill is not passed, I will be required to either filter or contain the water pumped from my bilge? So a 17' boat that takes a few waves over the bow attempts to pump the water that made it to the bilge to keep from capsizing would be in violation? Just curious....

Of course not - but that's what the fear-mongers want you to think. That's the way politics works these days.

It's the same old argument- why should I clean up my yard when there are bigger, dirtier yards out there to be cleaned? I'm not the problem, it's those guys over there.

EPA goes way over board and has too much power. I know a man that has some land and sold the gravel rights on it. A few years later he wanted to build on it but EPA said it was wetlands. The gravel company left holes that filled with water and now it's protected wetlands and he can't do anything with it.
