Default Really Cool Day in The Islands! 9 Species!!!

    Hello All,

Did a short notice walk-on trip yesterday and it was a success! Weather was a bit more windy than forecasted but was from a direction which didn't screw up the water. Didn't start the trip till 730am because of tide prediction.....didn't want to get out there at dead low tide so moving launch time out 2 hours was a good move. We ran south and east for about an hour and started fishing with a nice incoming current. Throughout the day we fished many different points on different islands from South Marsh up to the Honga.....fish were not on every point but when life was in an area there was plenty of life! Here's a roll call of all the species caught on BKD's and Gulps.......some may have been snagged but all were in the mouth area......Speck, Striper, Croaker, Spot, Red Drum, bluefish, whiting(i think) cow nosed ray, flounder, oh and a couple of crabs grabbed an hung on to gulps. I should have snapped a shot of all the species but didn't!

Conditions were good, we snuck up silently on where the fish "should" be and had a bunch of lures flying into the areas. Staying on the move and maintaining confidence is important when fishing the eastern shore island area. Everyday is different, you never know from one day to the next where they will bite or if they (Specks) will bite. I cover lot's of water and draw blanks way more than I get hit........however, once found, a few may get caught.....also, they shut off fast....one minute a double or triple of Specks....the next crickets chirping. You can hit a point now with nothing and then an hour later it's on there.........it's a CHALLENGE!

Today we had an abundance of nice Specks caught by guys who hadn't fished for them before like we did today. A great day was had by all and everybody caught Specks. We caught a few small ones but most were really nice with many in the 20's inch range. I'm really amazed at the Speck fishery we've got now......again, it "ain't" a guarantee and it "ain't" always the same and it "ain't" something that can be done if you don't know the lay of the land.

Walk-On Trip this Friday, 3 August

Opening up a walk-on trip for this Friday, aug 3. Weather outlook is good....light southerly wind. We'll launch from Beacon Marina at Solomons at 530am and return around 2pm or so. I'll fillet fish at the end of the day. We'll fish for specks over in the islands and maybe run out into the mainstem of the bay looking for blues/Stripers/Reds if the wind permits. We'll probably run 70-85 miles total for the day and see some beautiful stuff over in the islands. Fishing has been good but always a challenge over there......with a little luck we'll do well!

The boat is licensed and I'll provide all baits and tackle for the trip....if you have tackle you like bring it!

If you are interested in going or have any questions give me a call at 703-395-9955.

WTG catching all them specs! You all must have had a blast. Those water crickets couldn't have been chirping too much for you to catch all those fish -- haha!

And we Eastern Shoreman hope you'll be equally AMAZED when the Spec fishery disappears due to all the extra pressure from TF, Coms, & the lurking world that read these reports about a very sensitive shallow water fishery... due to the need of promoting one's business.

We see boats coming over from the western shore and down from DE & PA fishing for specs because they somehow just amazingly discovered a technique and area for specs. Go figure.

Default Get Out of MY Honey-hole !

I know how you feel about spot-burning, scenery in the background, and pressure-sensitivity. It is an illusion to think that a forum which thrives and literally feeds on information exchange is not going to affect where we fish. However, the facts are that the Bay and surrounding waters belong to ALL the people of Maryland and those whom Md has licensed to fish there. As such, the only way to keep folks out of your honey holes is to never tell where you caught the fish.

But of course that's not so easy. I think guys are getting better at understanding your point, at least we aren't reading Longs and Lats. BTW does anybody have the numbers on the lumps near the Target Ship ? Just kidding !

I see Pete out there quite frequently. He's working hard to get his anglers onto good fishing opportunities.

You speak with the tongue of a double edged sword, Are you a politician? The very complaint you list is the very thing economic development leaders in your community need and want. All of those visitors bring hotel rentals, fuel purchases, launch fees, food purchases, produce purchases and everything else we buy.

Do you know how many fish we kept? 0, thats right zero. As far as the local commercial fishermen, they already know the fish are there and if friendly, they are usually a very good source of information.

Take your complaint and put it to use by asking the local DNR Biologists to recommend a C&R fishery or very strict size and number limits.

Pouncing on the charter captains engaging in a legal activity is a waste of your time.
    Shut Up & Fish
