Default Why Do You Not Want to Give Fishing Reports?

Some have mentioned the board is not what it used to be. Many that used to give reports don't anymore (but are still fishing). Many new members don't give reports. To me, reports are what make this board great. I still see crowds of boats out fishing but few actual reports. Skunk and slow catching reports all provide good information too. I know some don't want to give up their spot or even general location...to me that is OK. Just the fact there are fish to be caught is all the motivation I need sometime. I know some stopped reporting because of the 0.0001% of the haters that make a negative comment but what about the other 99.9999% that are not negative and appreciate the report. I know there are some that are very sensitive to that sort of thing but I can't believe the vast majority are this sensitive. I know folks still flock to TF to read what is happening as posts still get many views but seems most only view and don't participate by giving reports.

So to those that have been on the board a long time and those new folks to the board, why do you not want to give fishing reports?

    Ok I'll bite.

The flounder bite has been wide slam jam open at the CBBT for three weeks now.....go gettum!

Enjoy your time at the bridge now Mike...LOL

There were only 300 hundred boats at the 2nd trying to catch 200 flounder last week.

Tidal Fish used to be a small network that was useful, now it is detrimental to our resources...I am sorry you don't get it.

PS I do not feel this is the case on the offshore board just inshore cause every Tom, Dick and Harry with a row boat reads this forum.

Wow , You couldn't have read my mind and typed it out any better than that, ON TARGET.
I think this board and all the seminars and stars it has created has really messed up the fishing in the bay, I'm not trying to put out "Negative Energy" or any hate, its just the way i see it.
I like to read reports but its not why i come to Tidalfish, i come to just talk fishing and things kinda related to fishing.
I REALLY don't like that people find out so easily places/spots and tactics that hammer certain species and give up the places / spots to the point that they can hardly be fished without 300 tidal fish friends to keep you company if you can manage to get a place in the old spot. Call me grumpy and selfish , its ok. Ive also learned a lot from the board , like how you should keep some things to yourself.

    Default Late Report

We fished in the Norfolk Marine Company Owner's Tournament last Saturday.

We did pretty well with Spadefish at the CBBT, drifting one side of one of the islands, on one of the tidal flows, catching on both shallow bobbers and deeper rigs. We had a dozen spades and one 32" Red Drum, on a spade rig at 10-ft depth. Clams for bait. Red hooks, size 1/0. No music playing on the boat...

    P.S. Mike, you are correct.

Kind of like chartering a well known flounder guide and then boats piled up on his holes the next week.Everyone wants to catch fish its just ashame some folks cant figure things out on their own.Its to late now the bay is overloaded with boats and disrespectful fisherman with no boating etiquette.I like tidal fish but to many people want top be stars and it has its effects on fishing for sure.I have also been out there with one of the best fisherman I know whom I fished with for years and slayed sheepshead and the next day you couldnt get any where around where we fished the prior day because of being followed and pulling out the net so its not only fishing reports on tidal fish that has an effect.Sad but true.

As you can tell by my join date I've been around since the old board.
When Ray Heim (deceased) and I use to fish everyday I would post quite often, the last couple of years
not so much but I do check the posting all the time and have noticed the changing of the board.....

I mainly post during striper season to give people a heads up on the wire line fishing at the tubes and
if I manage to do a repower I will do so again this year...

I've fished three times this year with friends.....one flounder skunk, one spanish trip that ended with only four blues
and a tog trip today and the guys anchor line broke and power pro got wrapped around the prop....I hate to type
that out much less pass it along....

yamaha has just come out with a 5year warranty deal so maybe I can work out a deal and get my mighty 18ft
kencraft back in the boatel and out in the bay where she belongs....

I don't mind the haters as most are just jerks. I'm bothered that the board is so full of lurkers and takers. So many people are fishing the bay but so few are posting or even taking the time to respond to posts. Most just come to TF to get fishing information and give back nothing in return. Not even a thank you.

I appreciate the reports and fishing advice from the few who do post.

Wow-did I just read that...someone actually said "not even a thank you"??? You could not have hit that any harder, it just happened to me. A guy Pms me about the monster Black tip I caught last year. 10' 6" seriously!!..he wanted some info on how where what when. I gave this guy precise instructions on How, Where, What, he already knew the when. The where was a general but anywhere in that area holds big sharks. I type very slow so it took a while to write. this guy wanted gear to rigging info. He never even gave a quick thanks. It has happened before too but this last one took the cake.
Mike like you I find the skunk reports good intel as well, I have put those up too in the past. You get hits but again no thank you's, you spend time and money in that skunk trip then take the time to admit it on an open forum and you get squat.
When you do give a report and you give specific info such as, slayed the spades on a slack tide with clams at wolf trap, the next time you go the bait shop is sold out of clams and when you do get bait and get there you find 50 boats. Sometimes it ruins the spot untill next year.
I also totally agree with a report such as, Cobia are in the lowewr bay in good numbers, or went out today and caught my limit of sheep in an hr. BUT what you get back is a bunch of smart arse comments because you wil not give an exact location. I have a very very few friends that I will share info with anymore because of the above mentioned, it also doesn't help I am so far away either. And even with the off the board reports you still have to be carefull, someone will try to move ahead on the high archy of an internet site and spill the beans of a great bite, wher when and what, then your spot is gone. It happened a couple of times on the NN board a while back, did that get touchy, still not sure if those two didn't end up squaring off somewhere.

Why not just ignore those people?

    Mike,

I rarely post because I don't like the few that look to slam anything that is put out on the board. I also don't take picture's which most all want to see. I have not been fishing on my own boat hardly at all this year. I plan on trying to correct that over the next couple of months, I have a ton of leave that needs to be used!
