Depths to be fishing are flats good choice or do I need to go up river. Not looking to spot burn just general info. Thinking of using shrimp as bait and some frozen bunker that I have left. Any help appreciated. If looking for Raritan Bay info give me a shout.

I'm sure your talking about Turkey Point up the flats with Raritan Bay being in Jersey.Channel Cats are everywhere up there down to the Patapsco. They bite anything including Bass lures.Casting with scented baits like gulp, berkley power bait etc. on jigs, spinners etc works good or you can use any scented fish spray on your plastics like spike it,yum, dip and glo, menhaden oil etc..It's hard to get away from them up here right now.You don't find them..they find you.

I'm not sure where you plan to head out of but I normally fish in the Elk River and down to Turkey Point. Take a look any map with depths and look for deep holes near shallow flats. I have been catching cats on squid and bloodworms meant for perch. If you are fishing with kids you might consider bloodworms with high/low rigs. The big cats can be hard to find and usually need to liveline a big bait and go after dark. If you want channel cats or mudcats (bullheads), they are all over. If you want to go after flathead you need to head up towards the dam. I have not fished that area so can provide any details. If you do decide to fish the Elk River, be aware it becomes a zoo by 11am on weekends. Let me know if you want any other info. I hope you have a great trip. Let us know how you do.

Catch a perch and cut it up for bait!! !take a nice sized pice and put on a bigger hook (than for perch) and send it to the bottom. Look for a drop off and anchore so you are over the drop.

They should catch WPs and cats.
