I'll be down in chincoteague the 18 thru 22 of aug and was wanting any info on fishing and crabbing the area thanks
any info at all would help
Haven't been down this year, best bet is to go to Captain Bob's (south end of Main St.) and ask Donna what and where. She won't steer you wrong.
Another source is Captain Steve's website.
Crabbing u will probably find as many as u can handle but a ton of females and short males. Getting enuff 2 eat mite b tuff unless u put in a full effort or are willing 2 eat sooks. I have 30 traps and pretty much u get a crab(s) in each but 90% go back. Take plenty of bait cuz they will steal u blind.
Depending on what kind of boat u run, the flounder bite should still in full swing at the subway cars 6 miles off the beach. If u don't have a ride big enuff 4 the big pond there has been a bite in the lower section of queens sound the last little bit but you're a long ways off for this kind of intel. Sounds like the croaker bite is picking up as well as the sizes. Like was mentioned, Capt Bobs, Capt Steves on the island and Matt at Seahawk Tackle on Rt 13 and the MD/VA line will tell u anything and everything u need 2 know.
Don't know if you're into it but I've heard way too many reports of guys catching big sharks inside drifting cut bait and most recently a nice cobia in queens sound. I've personally not done it so u will need to ask the tackle shop guys for info on that. Have fun and make sure u eat ice cream at The Creamery :).
Cant provide any current information as I don't get down their much anymore. Did want to mention after reading above posts make sure that you read up on the current VA regs for crabbing. A lot different than MD and as I recall that you used to be able to use only five traps per boat. Trotline max was 250 feet.
Croaker should be in the back bays and just off shore
Thanks a lot guys for all the info . And i will look for the creamery for sure
I would be wrong in not mentioning as well if u really want to catch some fish, especially the flat things, call Capt Perry on Topless Charters
