will appreciate if anyone can tell me about the fishing out of Oyster. How are the boat ramps? How far out are the croakers this time of year.Any other info will be most helpful.Once this weather gets better am planning on going that way.
Fished out of there on Saturday, 8/4. The ramps are great with nice floating docks. We ended up going almost to the ocean and drifting near the outmost islands. The water was nice and flat on that side, much better than the bay. We were really going for flounder, but caught mostly croaker. They were decent size, about 10 to 14 inches. Don't know how many we caught, but it seemed like a ton. Caught a few flounder too, but only one keeper. We were the only ones out that far, all the other boats were not very far out. When we came back in around noon, there must have been 30 boats there. They didn't look like they were catching any "keepers" though. I mean, they were keeping them, but they all looked like babies compared to what we saw.
We also thought it was funny that all the boats/trucks were from the NC coast. We were puzzled as to why all those guys would come fish for croaker out of Oyster???
