    Default rockfish and a surprise

caught about thirty five spot the day before and came down tthis morning and they were all dead. I have been having trouble keeping spot i have bought 2 traps and they dont work. so bought two dozen spot at anglers then they died within 20 minutes. so i ended up going to the bay bridge to catch spot then when we had about 30 in the liivewell. so went to my livelinning spot and the current was just starting to pick up within 15 minutes hooked up with 22 inch rockfish. got one more bite but my friend missed it. before we left caught a black sea bass i have never caught one before. my dad dosent like fishing but i think i got him hooked he wants to buy more rods and go again i am so happy. got home around 10.

That's awesome Ryan! Good talking to you guys out there today. Maybe we can set up a trip with dad and your brothers to come along with me in December or early next spring and show him a really big rockfish!!........................................ Mark

Shame the Spot died - one idea might be to locate the Spot pen out in deeper water in the bay itself.

Often this time of year - oxygen levels can drop very low in the creeks. Combine that with high water temps. and Spot can die.

Funny you are getting your father into fishing - 99% of the time it's the other way around.

This will make more sense as you get older but do your best to fish with your dad as much as you can.
What could be more mundane than dying of old age or of natural causes when there is death by misadventure to be pursued ? Skip

Hey Superdink, that "baby rockfish guy" fishes year round, frequently catches big fish, obviously tremendously enjoys himself while doing so, and then comes home to write enthusiastically-detailed, very time consuming reports, documented with numerous pictures, for the rest of us to enjoy. He makes reports whether he catches fish or not, he is honest about his fishing accomplishments, and he includes his family and friends in his fun. He took the time to reply to your rude comment in his thread politely. In addition, he uses proper gRamur, pungshooashun, and speeling. You could learn from a man of his caliber.

To the OP, I am sorry for interrupting your thread. I have really enjoyed reading your posts this summer, seeing your skill level and success improve greatly, and reliving a bit of my childhood. Keep posting. More pics of the boat. I'm sure I speak for many of the "old guys" here when I thank you for your posts.

    Hey Ryan,

Good on ya, way to go! Keep fishing and keep 'em coming.

PS - if it's of any interest to you. I do almost all my typing (of any length) in Word. It's just waaaay easier to work with. i.e. Auto capitalization, spell check etc. Then just cut & paste.

I agree with skip. The only regret I have with my father is that I never took him out on my boat, like he did when I was a kid.
