It's not just about the forage fish issue. The other issue is the fact that they are filter feeders and clean the bay. Along with the oysters we should be doing everything we can to protect anything that helps us with that.

I don't post much anymore, because of this kind of BS. 41, post so far about how up in arms we should be about our Va gov, and the over fishing of the bay. But where are you when the meeting dates are posted and still very few if any show up to voice there objection to what is going on ? I'm sure that the dates will again be posted the times and place will be on here again. If you want to change things get people, clubs and schools and fill the meeting hall. Remember its your voice and vote that changes things...not this board post.

Pugg, most people have to work when these meetings are held and don't have the time to give to one of many such issues as this, we are busy trying to keep our heads above the water and can't always make it to our pet issues to pull our elected officials heads out of the sand or hands out of pockets.
Ya vote for a politician for his position on one issue and he knifes you on another, thats just the way it is, aint enough money to make it go the way you want it all the time.

    Mike-Fish Dad,

Call me if the opportunity comes up. I think it would be a great way to raise the level of awareness.

Several years ago I checked on these Reedville jobs . Its a seasonal business with very few full time jobs . A lot are not residents.
Off season the state most likely pays more in unemployment than takes in taxes. The profits go to Texas.
The problem is not catching its the location they catch . They need to fish out of state waters where the fish are not depleted.
Fishing as close to Reedville as possible adds to the bottom line.

Its hard to imagine that they would need more data. Anybody can view Omega's quarterly press releases and see how the stock is doing. They can lie to elected officials but not to the SEC. That would be jail time. Their last press release from a month ago says the catch is way up in number of tons but way down in fish oil produces per ton. I am not a scientist but we are all fishermen and know when you are catching skinny fish you are scraping the bottom of the barrel. With the low fish oil results the fleet needs to pull more and more stock from near by waters which is why we have seen them more and more boats in the bay and in the river. Rising fuel prices, low oil results, bad weather in the gulf every later summer and fall. Our bay is going to get hammered until the fish are gone.
