    Default Lower Potomac - 8/8/12

Left Coan River early A.M. planning to troll for Blues/Spanish in lower river, especially around Smith Pt. Light.

Lines over at #1 with immediate multiple hits. Seven blues in the box in 10 minutes, all 1-2 lbs. Looked like a great day just beginning.

Trolled south to just above Great Wicomico Light where a bar juts out from a point on shore. About 1/2 mi. north of light. Landed 17" Spanish. No other hits.

Trolled until noon with no more hits. Switched to bottom tackle and jigs. Fished two more hours with no bites.

    Coan Ranger,
You need to chase some Macs up the Potomac to near buoy #7 so we do not need to run so far to try to catch them. Last year I ran out to Target ship to catch some Macs and the nearly 50 mile round trip is not fun. Hope to get out sometime this weekend when weather permits to try some trolling and bottom fishing. Good Luck on your next trip.

What are you using to troll for Mac's and Blues. Never done it? Any weights on line or just lures. Thanks

Big Fish, I troll 8 lines, 4 with 1-4oz in lines and 4 with #1 planers. I have a Clark spoon on each line, some silver, some gold. I run the 4 in-lines off the roof rocket launcher and the others off the gunwales. In-lines are out from 100' to 200'. Planer lines are out 50' to 80'. Sometimes I run a #2 planer with a larger spoon or small parachute hoping for a big drum or rock.
