Hang in there. I have not been since mac's showed, but friends are doing OK at this time..(5-6 per trip)
I have been fishing for those flat fish in my old spots between 6 and 8 in the Rapp. I was looking forward to that 16.5 in limit but the fish just aren't there for me. Since the last week of June I have caught one flounder. Not a keeper flounder, just one short flounder. I can't say I've put the time in that I have years past but I seldom would get skunked in years past. Is it just me or has anybody else noticed a lack of river flounder this year?

Hey, Hey Charlie! Where are they fishing? I have heard of some fish caught down by the bridge but not much up river where I am. I'll probably switch off to macs after this weekend. Only bad thing is that 14 mile run to Mac country from Urbanna.
Dang, Sorry.. I forget. there is ALSO a 6 and 8-- above Norris bridge as well as down this way.. Correct my friends are doing well gigging for flatones at bridge . And a few on this side of bridge
Up till 4-5 yrs ago, I could generally catch mac's all the way up to bridge, but last 2-3 yrs none in river that I can remember.. with this red tide this yr, I am looking at 15-20mile runs ( one way) . In fact I was just checking map for runs to wolf trap and 42.. (If I get good days next week)
BUT I LOVE to FISH. BTW, Trailer is great! I have been thinking of towing boat to Outer banks!
Glad the trailer is working for you. Looks like I'm going to have to run way down river to catch a flounder this year. They just did not come up here this summer. Thanks for the info.
Flounder seem hard to come by. We dodged the storms yesterday morning and jigged for flounder up and down the river from the pickle factory and mooring buoy to the bridge and then all around the #6 bell buoy up to #8 and spots in between and then up to #10. Totally skunked on flounder. We finally gave up on flounder and hit some shallow water spots for LT casting and caught jumbo size croaker, C&R striper and puppy drum.
Thanks Slatedog. Sorry about your lack of flounder, but it is good to know it is not just me. That shallow water casting seems to be the way to go these days. I may have to trade my deep v center console in on a flats or bay boat of some type in the future.

9 species of fish caught, every was small, and 0 flounder..
