Default FYI freezers and ac units

Saw all these posts about freezers and ac units so I posted this . I just got a free 5200 btu ac unit from a friend and just in case I would ever give it back I tried to save the box and packing so I turned it on it's side to take it out of box . After i got it out I plugged it in and burnt up the compressor . I had heard to never turn a frig or freezer on it's side . I now learned the rule is that if you turn anything with a compressor on it's side you must let it sit upright 24 hours before plugging it in .

That is to allow the oil to drain back into the compressor. Correct.................Gary
