    Default Dundee/Saltpeter Creeks

Ran 800 ft of trotline with chicken necks from 7 am - 1 pm Friday. High tide was at 8 am at Maxwell Point. First set was just inside the mouth of Dundee Creek, second set was just inside the mouth of Saltpeter Creek at around 10am. Caught 3-4 bu of crabs that were 5 & 7/32s". Caught ½ bu of crabs that were over 5¼"........ a few at 6½". Some others returning to the ramp at the same time that crabbed in the Gunpowder only had 10 crabs.

Not a stellar catch; but, got to spend the day with my son and daughter-in-law, caught enough crabs for dinner and leftovers, and saw a water snake trying to eat a cat fish 4 times bigger than he was that he had by the tail ....... amazing!

Pics are of the catch and the last crab caught which was on the last bait just before the chain as we were pulling the line.

All-in-all a great time .......... but then, even the worse day on the water is better than the best day at work!

Cool. We were keeping an eye on you to see how you were doing. Glad you got some.

We were thinking that with the talk about the salt wedge creeping up-creek, that perhaps crabbing more upstream would have yielded better quality crabs. Do you have any experience crabbing closer to the Marina or upstream in Saltpeter Creek?

How did you do fishing over there where you were?

Not bad, Considering everwhere else. Just nice to be on the water with freinds and family.
Fall Crabbing should be WIDE OPEN

I have done well further up the creek on some days and also done well further out on other days. not alot of crabs in this river this year. the main reason I crab there it is close and first time crabbing in kayak.

Well, it looks to me like you did GREAT! What did you have ........ something like 10 traps? We had 140 baits in the water on our lines to your 10; and, you caught 16 keepers and we caught 34. So, in my book you kicked butt.

10-4 on the "...close to home..." We live in Carney and the 20 minute ride to Dundee is alot better than the 1 hour drive to the Chester River.
