I took the boy down Md to do some crabbing and rented one of their boats rather then buying their ramp permit and all. I pull up to the marina at 5:00 am and still dark. I'm not into the parking lot for 30 seconds and a guy comes up to the window on my truck and asks if I have any starting fluid. I'm still half asleep and like what the heck is this guy talking about. He looked like one of the guys off the movie deliverance. So I'm walking down the dock to pick out my boat and the guy is yanking and yanking on this outboard trying to get it to start. I said " Hey buddy are you renting that boat? And if so why don't you just get another boat" because their were about 15 other boats with newer motors. He says " I've been using this boat for years and its old reliable". All of the sudden this guy is yanking on the cord so hard he pulls the motor off the back of the boat and it falls in the water hahahaha. The whole outbard is in the water, its not his, and the people that own the place aren't even there yet. The place is on the Wye river btw and called Schnaitmans. Its been there for years and they allow you to get there early and pick your own boat and all. Anyway this guy is hanging off the dock into the water trying to fish out this outboard. He asks me to hold his feet because he thinks he can feel it. So I figured what the hell and I grab the guys shoes. I was holding his shoes as he is completely in the water and two thoughts crossed me mind. One he mine as well just jump in because he was completely in the water, and two..man this guys feets stunk. So anyway I guess his shoes were a little big and his foot slipped out of one. I grabbed his other leg with both hands and all of the sudden somebody shines a flashlight on us. I'm standing there holding this hillbilly by one leg dangling off the dock haha. It was a female MD game warden or whatever you call them. She says "What in the world are you doing with that guy?" Man that must have been a funny thing to walk up on. After I pulled him up and explained this guy starts crying. I'm serious, this guy was crying like an infant. So I just let her deal with him and went to load up all my traps and gear on the boat. What an entertaining way to start the day lol

Years ago we used to fish out at Lake Murray in Charlotte, NC. One day we watched as an old guy backed down the ramp and then stopped to light a cigarette and drink part of his beer. The boat started to float and pulled his entire jeep down into the water.

A short while later, his wife came over raising holy heck at him as he was getting a tow out. Once the jeep was on dry land, he opened the door and several fish jumped out. He looked at her and said shut up woman, at least I got your dinner out of it.

Hahaha. About 14 years ago I was down the boat ramp in oak orchard by the power plant. At low tide you have to back all the way to the edge of the ramp but if you go to far you drop off the concrete ramp. THeir was a fellow in one of those lowrider trucks hauling a small jon boat. He had backed completely off the edge of the ramp and was sitting on the frame. He asked me to pull him out. I was a young lad at the time and had a really built truck. It was a dodge Ram 94' with a 360. I had heads, cam, roller rockers, intake, headers, you name it. Had the truck dyno'd at 420 rwhp which was a lot back then. I also had some pretty big offroad tires for the beach. At first he hooked a tow strap up and I broke the strap. This truck wouldn't budge. We hooked chains around his bumper next and I ripped the whole bumper off hahahah. Finally he wrapped the chains underneath real good around the frame. I floored my truck and still wouldn't budge but their was all kind of loud noise. I told the guy he was going to ruin something on either his truck or mine but he insisted I put it in 4 low and give it one last try. I put it in four low and floored it. The truck shot right out of the water. As I pulled up the road with him on the back I could hear all this metal grinding and their were sparks flying. I get out of the truck and look, I ripped the whole rear out of this guys truck, tires, wheels and all. The leaf springs were gone. Gas leaking everywhere, The fire department had to come out. What a scene. I pulled him so fast the boat trailer popped over the edge of the ramp but twisted the rear. He had left the motor down and tore the bottom unit and prop off. You would think this guy would have been upset right? nope he was talking about the two bushel of crabs he got and the flounder he had caught in a crab trap. Lmao!!!!

Take some sandwiches, your favorite adult beverage, and go watch a public ramp, best comedy entertainment anywhere, and free.

There should be a cover charge for hanging out at a boat ramp!

Long weekend coming up, get your coolers.

About 4 years ago I was out flounder fishing in the indian river bay. I was in a little 16' aluminum boat with my toddler son at the time and my fat buddy who played defensive end for the buffalo bills. As we're trying to fish all the jerks are buzzing by in the cigar boats just burning gas. And I know many of you fisherman can't be too happy trying to relax and fish while their are jerks just burning gas acting like showoffs throwing large swells at us. Anyhow these college boys went by in about a 32' baja doing about 60mph and came within 10' of the bow of my boat. Their swell almost sunk us. I threw my hands up and they circled back around and wanted to act tuff. Flipping us the bird, throwing full beer cans at us, cussing while I had my boy in the boat. I guess beer can really make your thinking altered. I'm about 6'1 260 and my buddy is 6'2 335 and we both bench press just over 500lbs. I guess these guys didn't think about the boat ramp. After what they had done we weren't thinking too much about fishing. I pulled through masseys and waited around the corner for maybe an hour before they pulled up the the dock. 3 out of the 6 went for a swim in masseys, the other 3 wanted to be track stars and they must have had a hell of time hauling that boat home with no keys haha. It was a scene for those at the ramp that day. Lucky the fish and wildlife guys weren't there at that time. I try to go during the week real early or real late if at all possible.
