Question Was it Me or was the CBBT and the bay dead today

Breaking in the new to me boat with a 6 day fishing marathon. We have been doing well but today seemed WAY off. Running in today from the hi-rise we only saw 12 to 15 boats around the islands. For the Holiday weekend ,would have expected more. What are the thoughts on salinity levels due to all the recent rains? We pulled all the right stuff, Gulps, baby spot, perch, flounder belly, bluefish strips. Did well in the ocean around Cape Henry for the past 2 days. Heading out in the am for the oceanfront to hunt for spanish.Any help or input would be appreciated. Capt.David

We caught a dozen flounder along the CBBT today .... Live bait and jigs ...... Not what it has been...... Cape Henry sounds like the best bet

We fished from about 8 AM to 2 PM off of Cape Henry. Trolled the entire time.. fast troll, slow trolled... Lots of menhaden. We landed about 10 spanish, but only one was legal.. the rest were 12" or so. Nice looking fish, but way short. Caught 5 or 6 blues as well, kept for bait. Beautful day however.. not crowded at all.

What was really cool is we saw a 8' manta ray (yes, a manta ray, I have seen 'em before diving in the tropics) jump out of the water.. Awesome.

Back at it today if my son will ever get out of bed.

We tried Cape Henry today and also experienced the micro-mackerel. Saw the manta ray as well-thought it was a whale tail until it came out of the water a second time and I could see that it wasn't attached to anything! Plenty of 1/2 pound blues but we couldn't get them to bite topwater. Tried for flounder at cape Henry wreck and was able to unload some pretty big sinkers. Went to the first island so that we could bottom fish while we ate lunch and not have to be bothered by anything getting on our lines. Really nice day on the water and didn't have to clean any fish at the end!!

doldrums in Hampton Roads today--no current and negative wind. Hot like dog's breath. Even though it was a nice full tide when we started at the topof incoming, in 3 huors, no current. Middle ground light, Hampton Bar, Chamberlain, Fort wool, under the HRBT at the island--nothing. Not even any current at NIT. No fish (flounder) either obviously.

If I have to come up there and show you how to do that thing "Again" its not going to be cheap this time. Sad when a Carolina Boy has to come up and show you youngen's how to catch fish on your own waters... Lord, lord. :)
