If you can't make it to Abaco, I haven't been to Grand Bahama, but West End of Grand Bahama sounds way nicer than Freeport. There is a resort at Old Bahama Bay. West End is only 55 miles from Palm.

    Good luck!

Bring a couple of pole spears and several sets of sliptips for them. The grouper there will mess you up without a slip tip!
Brian, sounds awesome, been years since Ive been over there Bone fishing, but been twice, I remember staying at Walker's Cay hotel and Marina and sightfishing the flats over there. One night we went over to Freeport to hit a restaurant for dinner. I remember Freeport too to be not so appealing but overall the trip was cool as heck. I think since the Island of Walkers Cay was hit hard by storms, then heard it was sold to a private group and not sure if they ever reopened the place. It was only a mile or so by a mile or so and had a hotel, a marina a bar and a dive shop. Probably the most relaxing place I have ever been. Got to have some fresh conch fritters and a cold Goombay punch man! Have a great time

Your expedition sounds pretty cool. The description of safety measures got me thinking, and I wondered if you could tell me, does the Coast Gaurd accept/ recommend submiting a float plan for such trips? Just a personal curiosity I thought yould probably be knowledgeable about.

Many years ago caught my first Wahoo about a mile off the beach on a 1/2 day charter, we caught 2 that day. Had no where to fix it, so told the mate he could have it. Went looking for somewhere to eat that night and close by, a restaurant had a sign - fresh Wahoo dinner - $17.95. Always wondered if that was my Wahoo??????? True story. Good luck on the trip and sounds very interesting, be safe!

Rent an underwater digital camera with strobe while you are there. Dive shops should have them.

I go down there almost every year and the fishing is AWESOME you go from reef fishing catching giant grouper and snapper to taking a few minute trip and catching giant dolphin. Taking the Jet Skis will make it a trip never to forget I wish I was along for the ride but the one thing I always regret when leaving is I never put a full day of spear fishing in. I would highly recommend exploring and doing some snorkling and see if you cant rent a spear gun if you dont have one and it will definitley be one of the highlights of the trip ENJOY

Brian, I was there on a cruise in May. Did a lot of research as this was my one limited day to try and fish. West end, Dead Mans Reef is very cool place to dive/snorkel. You could fish just west of there where there are tidal flats. Bones and baracudas are there. The rock out croppings right by the little resturant there are not fishable as tourist are there. However there is a rock outcroping with fish on it just west of where the tourist are. I could not make the east end but that is where the best bonefishing there seems to be. No resorts and probably only a few bone fishing anglers on the east end. More traditional style flats on the east end. North side seems to be marsh/tidal area. Bones are in there but I didnt check it out. Locals are cool. Short version I met a local there who does know folks that could give you the up to date scoup on where to go. I could easily connect you with him if you wanted that resource just in case. Dont forget the bug spray. The bugs might not be out all the time but I was glad I had it where I was. Good luck and be safe. Tim

Safe Trip Brian. My brother will NOT be in Freeport to meet you (you docked next to him on your Bimini trip). Fair seas to you.
