    Default When you're Gurglin...When you're Gurglin...

    Been singing that all morning.

Dawn shore patrol a mile from my house yielded a few very healthy stripers on Gurglers...this 22" followed his 19" buddy to the boat, and then hung around until I released him and got the flyrod unlimbered.

Then he slammed the Gurgler. That fly remains locked and loaded on my boat.

Sorry about the blur - he spit at me or something right as as I took the shot...

    Pax:

Beautiful fish. Nice to see the river heating up. Thanks for the report.

How thick is that foam you use to tie those gurglers?

    Intermediate or floating line?

Just imagine, if I could do that before work everyday..... I'd be the most productive Environmental Scientist on the plannet. Or maybe not, I'd probably day dream about the next mornings trip all day, which is what I'm doing now.

Ha! - Floating line - the 9wt Rio Clouser propels Gurglers with minimal effort.

    Salar - It's regular craft foam from Michael's,about 3/16" I guess.

Doubled over. Here's a side shot from a couple of years ago:

Nice fish, Chris, way to rub our faces in it.

Yep, craft foam will do it...lots of colors, plus $1 will get you a near life-time supply.

I also like the gurgler on an intermediate line, kinda gurgle/dive a coupla inches, then slow float back to the surface...I get lots of hits on the slow-float pause, at least the smallies like it that way.

Hey Doug - I'm just delighted that the river is finally open to rockfishing - we couldn't even C&R until yesterday!

That fly will remain in my fly boxes until I can't handle a rod....I have used it here in the spring and fall as well as the many trips to Florida I take to visit my son, oh yeah!, and to fish. Trout, stripers, reds, snook and even a few snappers and the most exciting of all were jacks. When they go crazy get a fly in the water and they will go nuts. If I have any success next couple weeks while I help get my son past the 40th birthday I may just wet a line....

Way to go Pax. You are the gurgler king. I cannot catch squat on them. Now high ride sliders have been very good to me. I do not like the dense hard foam ones that ride low but the buoyant type bodies by Edgewater.

Do you give a remedial course on gurglering?

hay chis i just found some great foam for them, and i do mean found. a friend i met down here gets it on the frames that are shipped to him. he throws it away. when i first saw it and him throwing it in the trash. i liked to jumped out of my skin getting it back out of the trash. so now he saves it for me. it is also great to use tub cutters on it. it's about 1/2 to 1 inch thick and comes in black and white.
