Anyone else notice that Alaskan King Crab juveniles AND ALL FEMALES must be thrown back on last nights episode? Don't know the specifics of that type of crab species but it caught my attention since this has been a topic over and over. I do wish that they would stop the female harvest of blue crab, and yes, everyone can do what they please and entitled to their opinion; however, it would be interesting to see the result of this on their population and if relatively same breeding patterns are present why we don't do the same with blue claw crabs because obviously their must of been studies and a lot of discussion before this law was made. I don't know anything about their harvest or species, so their must be an obvious reason such as reproduction ratio. However, if everything is similar, it makes me wonder.

That's because if females were released there would be more crabs and supply would be up. When supply is up price goes down. We don't want a glut in the market do we? [grin]

Exactly.....If we can't harvest females, then the picking houses would'nt get crabs for $10 a bushel, and the restaurants wouldn't get crab meat for $10 a lb, and the seafood stores couldn't sell it to you for $25 a lb. We wouldn't want to drive up the cost of Md's most (supposed)treasured resource would we?

Hell I can't complain, I keep females too. But I wish they would outlaw the taking of them, the same way I wish they would outlaw cigarettes. It's hard for me to throw a crab back, when I need crabs for a feast, and its hard for me to quit smoking.....If they outlawed them both, it would make my decision easier....or make me an outlaw[grin]

Actually, the winter dredge survey was the 6th highest since records were kept. Maybe a sign that the regs. are doing there job?

My female is 60 & its to late for me to throw her back.
She still has a few more years of shelf-life left in her[smile]
    I sure hope she doesn't read this[grin]
