I talked to one of the commercial crabbers yesterday who has been working the Choptank. He says it's been a long time since he's seen this many #1's this early in the year. He's looking for a banner year. Sounds promising to me.[excited][q] [/q]
Hey everybody, actually went out crabbing on Tues. afternoon in a muddy bottom creek not far from my house in Somerset county. Got there on slack low tide, put out 10 traps and pulled 4 runs and nary a crab. So I sat and ate a sandwich and let the tide start coming back in. Checked them again and had 6 keepers! Ran them in 9-11 feet and caught 18 keepers before it got dark, caught lots of small ones too.Had one big female, let her go.
Never caught them this early before on the bay. They tasted good but the quality wasn't up to midsummer standards, but it's only going to get better.
Good luck if you go!

That sounds real good guys. I may go ahead and splash a few trap on the Miles once I get the skiff into the water tomorrow.
Thanks for the report Crabber!
That's great news. I may give it a try in a week or so. Of course, the temps. are sinking this weekend, so I may weight a bit longer.
Thanks for the report and congratulations on your early catch.
You guys are killin' me here.
Anyone running trout line or would that be too early??
We can't go cause we sold our truck - don't have anything to pull boat with yet.
Been hearing some reports from off the Choptank and its getting close . I'll give it a week or two before I drop my line .
Crabber,
Thanks for the post. Glad you had some luck. Might be a good weekend for me to make sure everything is in order since it sounds like rain for the most part.
A report in the Fisherman Magazine says a fisherman tried his luck off a bridge on Taylors Island and caught several dozen large male Crabs.
