I decided to try and see how the crabbing was at the Rhode. I was not prepared to trotline and I did not have a boat with me. I did have a crab net , some string, and a cooler in my car, so I stopped at Shoppers and picked up $4 of chicken legs (about 14). I went to a peir on the Rhodes and started crabbing the old fashion way at 6pm. I stopped at 8pm and headed back with a dozen crabs ranging from 5.5inches to 6.25 inches. Considering the price of crabs these days, this dozen was a bargain. Maybe I will try trotlining this weekend.

Glad to hear there is some movement going on. Your post reminded me when i was a lad my parents would take my brother & me to Brooms Island & we would spend the night & crab using hand lines from the rental boats Ms Sadie use to rentout . That was a long - long time ago.

I would think with that kind of action a trotline would do very well.[smile]

That's why I have just arranged to go out with my brother-in-law trotlining on Sat for a few hours.

However, doing the handline thing was kind of fun. Not as much prep work and cleanup as when I go trotlining. But being by the water us always peaceful, and most fellow anglers or "apron chasers" (crabbers) are always friendly and fun.
