I know what you mean about making a decision. I was down the Wye way 6/4 5,000' of line and 2 crabs. I personally think it is going to be another week before they even start at the mouth of the Wye. I was out more in open water.
Guys,
I am headed out for the first crabbie trip this weekend. Any ideas how far south to try? I have been keeping an eye out here but with this recent heat wave its hard to make a decision. I am coming down from the upper bay area and the less driving the better. I was at OC 2 weeks ago and bought some but its nothing like catching and steaming those Cheassies.
Thanks in advance [excited]

there are crabs around the mid bay area. I've found early season sucess this year and years past looking for large flats with deep water access. The warm MUCH quicker. One such spot that was very good to me was near the mouth of the severn river. I went out recently and the best crabs seemed to come form 4-8' on the edge on the flat. The better crabs were deeper but there were more in shallower water.
I have to agree with H2O. Experience has taught me in the spring mud flats close to deep water will produce the better crabs Humps & Ridges help also. The shoal grass will produce a lot of white & small crabs early on.
Good Luck
With conflicting reports up to the Chester good and bad, I'm convinced it is a matter of finding there pattern and early season locations.
If you want crabs, head south. I think the Miles, Tred, Little Choptank and Slaughter areas are producing very good catches based on reports. I also travel quite a ways but I'd rather go the extra hour and "guarantee" a productive day than stay north and fight the crowds with a marginal chance. Just my opinion.
Crabbeer has the right formula!!
This time of year you have to go to where the crabs ARE, not where it's convenient for you. That would be too easy.
He has to travel a lot farther than most of us do.
I admire his positive attitude and determination.
Crabeer is right on the Crab!!! south is the tiket, the eastern shore Tribs are good but don't forget the western shore,,West,Pax,&Potomac
Thanks Guys I am headed south.....

Plnety of crabs south, but there are more than enough up here as well and less crabers. Either way you should enjoy a crab dinner.
