    Default Eastern Bay 6/24

On the water by 6 AM with a very full high tide. The highest I've seen (3 years this location). Water still felt cool. Had 1000' feet of line in depths from 6 to probably 12 feet (tide was that high). First three runs yielded several small keepers, moved the line into the channel and found the bigger crabs, but never very busy. Managed only a half-bushel mixed #1's and 2's. Talked to several in the area and similar or even less results. Only one commercial crabber in the area. Three doublers which I thought was unusual since I only remember having them in August. One solo female that was thrown back, and many undersized crabs that I let just hang on to see if they'd go over the roller (told you it was slow). None did. Packed it up after the "low" tide never really amounted to anything.

I'm not frustrated since I still feel like the water hasn't warmed enough yet to bring them in. The presence of only 1 commercial crabber in an area that usually has many seems to confirm this. Not to mention that I only needed what I got today for the small gathering tomorrow.

Still a wonderful day on the water.

I went out Thursday morning with similar results using traps. Moved around all day to find them but they were not there. Strange as I got almost a full bushel in the same spot a week earlier.

I am guessing it was a combination of the full moon and the relatively cold weather. The water seemed a little off color also.

Thanks for the report Swamp! If you don't mind me asking, what general area were you in?

I understand if there is not a reply but I was thinking of heading to EB area this Sunday. Just wondering if it is worth the drive yet!

    Crabbeer,
Sneaky, sneaky! Are you holding out on your reports? A bushel last week in EB! I didn't see that report![grin]

I think they are here you just have to find them. I took a trip to KI this week and talked to some local tackle stores and all gave me a positive forcast for the next few day's!

    Port Fisher,

Yesterday, I went in at Dominion. It's not a secret spot, for sure. It's always crowded on the weekends, but I'm able to get out during the week when it's usually pretty quiet. Of course, there are always commercial crabbers (which, by the way, have never been rude like some of the stories I have read here regarding the Miles River).

    Port Fisher,

Here is a copy of my report, sorry you missed it. It was hidden under "Any better at Thompson's Creek" dated 18 June. Wasn't trying to be secret, I have none of those.

I was out in Crab Alley area Friday early morning and got almost a bushel of good crabs in about 5 hours with very poor tide conditions. I was pleased. Another guy was crabbing less than a mile from me and got 12 in the same amount of time. They are there but you may have to look for them.

Thanks guy's, Just kidding about the "sneaky" line! Just adding a little humor. I guess I will fight the crowds and go Sunday! If anyone else is going, I will be in a 17' Tracker V-Hull working traps and lines with some Rookies![grin]
