    Default Eastern Bay 6/25

To say the least we struggled. Crabbed almost five hours and caught 22 keepers. We used 2 dozen traps and one 600 ft line. Moved all the traps numerous times but left the line in its original spot. Caught probably 3 dozen small ones and had three doublers on the line. We stayed inside Hog Island, I guess that was our mistake because i saw alot of boats out towards the channel. Crabbed in 6-10 ft.

Oh well it should only get better, it sure was a pretty morning!

Perhaps if you would have used skinless necks you may have actually caught some crabs

    I tried E Bay Sunday...

Crabbed outgoing tide for 2 1/2 hours. Used 30 traps set at all different depths -- from 4 to 15 feet. By third run we realized deeper traps were producing better. Ended up with half a basket with probably 8 or 10 crabs that were close to or over 8".

Overall I thought this was a decent trip.

whitebelly - I wasn't too far from your location and I had a friend in his bass boat near you, we both came up a little shy of a bu. but my traps did better in about the 5' - 7' depths. Just goes to show that you need to cover all the depths and then move accordingly. What type of boat were you in?

    John,

I'm in a 15 foot Logic with a tiller Honda. I think I moved a few of my traps out near you right before you picked up. Were you by yourself on Sat and just south of Hog Is? I was by the big free standing duck blind inside the island for most of the morning.
Hopefully gonna try it Sat but i have to work out the babysitter issue because the wife wants to go.
