......I will, and thanks. I see the 8" traps being a little small and uncapable of holding too many eels. How is your success with them? Are you catching any yet?
No I haven't put any over yet I usually do about the same time I start to run my trots that way I have an excuse not to get home to the wife til late. About 2-3 weeks I will put the firat 50 over as for now I am just making them and a new 2400 foot line. I did not remember that making a trotline was this much work got 4 years out of the one I am replacing the line is easy the snoods are a ..... well you know.
Honestly my winder and my basket both seem to like them better without them my winder kicks the line way to much and my basket seems to bind much more than with them. [smile]
If a fella wanted to put his recreational limit of 10 eel pots overboard, and catch some eels for supplemental crab bait, how would he go about doing it?
What time of year is best for eeling?
What are good areas to look for when setting eel pots?
What do you bait them with?
How do you prepare a slimy a$$ eel for a trotline, once you get his squirming a$$ in the boat?
Is there a limit on the amount a rec can take with his 10 pots?
How long do you let the pots soak before checking them?
If you feel like helping out some TF'ers learn the ropes of catching their own bait, it may boost sales for your pots...Just food for thought, and tryin' to learn something at the same time.

I look forward to your answers. I may give it a shot this year just for fun.
Hey I'm not trying to take any business from Geckert or anybody but Eddie Heath makes them down in crisfield. I no thats a run for me since i live in elkton but who doesn't love crisfield?
[smile]
If you want his number just ask. I have enough business that I do not mind one way or the other. They are a good bunch of guys and I will say his quality is pretty good too but they do make a better crab pot than eel pot. and he is reasonably priced.
The best time for eeling on the northeast is probly the end of this month all the way through late may. We just set them any where and we catch them. Clams work great for bait and so does carp spawn or row. You can go down ethier by rock hall or dover and get clam guts. like the guts out of those great big clams they work good also. You will also catch a lot of crawdads. They are great eating!!! Hope that helps.

Sorry bout not answering sooner antman
best time is from now til about 1 1/2-2 months form now for profitable eeling rec guys can catch a few all summer.
Bait use razor clams or crab most of the time
prep I carry a 40 gallon gbage pail with about a 1-2 ratio salt to water
1 gallon salt to 2 gallon water Larger eels I dump right into the pail smaller 6-12in I keep live for the striper markets. then clean cut and salt cut about 2 in pieces.
I soak most of my pots this time of the year 2 days warmer weather almost daily but they wll hold 2 days almost all year.
