Salted eel or salted chicken necks

Rich, do the salted necks last longer on the water?

Is it worth using salted necks to preserve bait when there is alot of junk and undersize chewing up the line?

When necks are first salted they seem a little "tougher" but they don't seem to last any longer than fresh necks,,they still "wash out" by the end of the day

....I agree with rj, the only reason I see people salting necks, is because they are not planning on refrigerating or freezing them before the next trip. Most comm crabber will rebait after the days crabbing, right at the slip and leave the bait in the baskets until the following morning. The salt should and I guess does preserve it....but not indefinitley. I tried it, but saw no difference in the durability or it being better recieved by the crabs than fresh necks. I abandoned it after the first time I tried it, unless my cooler was not working.[smile]

My lines only salted when I buy it thereafter I freeze them.
I probably use the lines every other weekend.
I don’t notice much deterioration.
I use eels because I thought they last longer
due to their toughness.
