Well I said if I got out Thursday, I'd let you guys know. So I hit 3 of my favorite Croaker spots this morning around Len's , Brooms Island, fished each spot 1 hour. 6 traps over the side while anchored baited with fresh chicken necks, fresh bloodworms bait for Croakers. Surface water temp. 64.6 degrees. 3 locations from 8-15 feet deep, results ---- 0, nothing, nada, zip, no takers. Took off down river under the bridge, drift fished in front to naval air station, caught 1 tiny Perch and 3 Croakers, 14-16 inch size, from noon to 3:30 PM when I accepted todays defeat. What else can I say, we need some warm, soon. Good Luck, T.
Thanks for the report! Sorry you didn't do so well[sad]
I'm gonna do pretty much the same thing you did but in the Wicomico Tom (fri)....Just hope the weather holds up for me.
Thanks Again for the report! A bad report is ALWAYS better than no report as far as I'm concerned.
Thanks for the report from here as well Tom. Not what I wanted to hear, but it's also about what I figured. I don't know what we are going to do, we've got everything ready, just don't want to waste the gas just because we're antsy.
Just from the dock talk I've been hearing at Len's, it might be a busy Memorial weekend there. Most of the bigger boats are either going to raft up or party at the dock. I had no probem getting out yesterday at low tide, and the motor pee'd just fine, no overheating from getting stuck in the mud earlier. Water color was off somewhat with a bunch of floating wood/junk down near the bridge. I think I'm gonna put in a few more Croaker trips before I break out the trot line for the season. Mel's Crabs, out on Rt. 4 had a sign up, $9.75 a dozen, I don't know what that would get ya as far as a meal. Good Luck, T.
Tom, I did go out today but didn't do much fishing dropped anchor and messed around for a little bit....Nothing. I caught a dozen crabs after I "dialed" em' in.......4-6'....I had 15 traps that ended up in that zone. Some crabs were "whitebellies"....I was out with the wife just messing around....I wish I had a trotline today. Surface temp 67deg. at about 11am. Looks like I'm breaking out the Big Guns next week [grin]
What I should have done, was,,, dropped the traps and went drift fishing, then checked back on them every 20 minutes or so. Glad you found some, Pax is due to start producing soon. T.
I was only out there for a few hours and I only set out 15 traps a few at each depth....then I caught a few at six feet and then moved the rest to that area....tried to fish...but couldn't wait to get back to the traps [grin].....then the wife wanted to go home and cook em' and chow down before she had to go to work[sad]
I'm a believer now.....next week ........trotlines[wink]
