Default OT-Bottom Paint that fights slime?

Why would I pay extra money for a bottom paint that fights slime? I'm getting ready to do my hull and was wondering what to get. Sure it gets slimy but is that really a problem?

Well Dave that's a very fair question. I used to just grab the deck brush and go around the waterline everytime I got on the boat (it's wet-slipped) but besides the extra pain of doing it I was also scrubbing off my ablative paint! I went to Micron Extra two years ago and have never considered anything else. Best price? Try True Value, yup True Value Hardware.....

Yeah but . . . why do we care if there's slime below the waterline of the boat? Is that a bad thing? I have a True Value right up the street ( I think ).

any slime that does build up on the bottom quickly goes away with the micron csc- the other ablatives are the same as well. the micron i have on my bottom is going on its 3rd season but im going to paint it next month again- good stuff-[smile]

Any type of marine growth on the bottom of your hull will make it less efficient at moving through the water, i.e. it will cost you more fuel to get to where you are going.

Thanks--that might explain why I lost 1 or 2 knots per hour by the end of the season last year. I'll go with one of the anti-slime ones.

I use Petite Trinidad SR- the SR stand for Slime Reducer and it really seems to do the trick. It's expensive though...

There are plenty of paints out there that address that issue. The Petit Paints that have SR in the name stands for slime release. And the Interlux paints w/ Biolux are great too!

If you use the Micron w/Biolux, the slime will come right off when you bring her up on plane. THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT..... I used Micron w/Biolux on my big boat for many years. Last year I didn't even use 1 tank of the fuel in her, that's how much it moved. When I sold her this spring, she had sat since last fall. When it was hauled for survey, the broker told me the bottom was clean, CLEAN.
