    Default Question about Yamaha warranty

I just bought a 3yo Yamaha Four Stroke. I was told by Yamaha customer Service that I need to have my Yamaha engine inspected by an authorized Yahama dealer to have the engine warranty transferred over. Is this correct? I would assume the dealer will charge me for this-

    Striper,
You're probably screwed on the warranty. I believe Yammy 4 strokes come with a 3 year warranty which is transferrable after inspection by an authorized Yammy dealer who then notifies Yamaha of the change in registration. A Yamaha Extended Service (YES warranty) can be purchased (before the original 3 year warranty expires) for an additional 1, 2, or 3 year term before the original. YES warranties are NOT transferrable.

    Mr Swiper:

Not to disagree with Mr Flycatcher, but....

I bought a new 2013 F70 in Oct 2012 which came with a 5 year warranty. I do a lot of my own basic maintenance and my dealer said that was OK but make sure to keep a maintenance log. The 5 year (YES) warranty is transferrable. To transfer warranty (3 or 5 year) an authorized dealer must inspect motor & submit paperwork to Yamaha. Please see below link. Expand item #15.

I transferred my Y.E.S warranty but was asked to provide proof of service, which I did, (from an authorized Yamaha dealer) and had no issues at all.
Great motors. I'm running twin 150's on a 25 ft Wellcraft CC. Great set up.
The extra YES warranty was a major plus when considering the purchase.
    Good luck.

I stand corrected. Mis-read Q&A section from Yamaha site - YES warranty can not be transferred to another unit if owner sells their motor and buys another. It does convey to the new owner of the covered motor.
