I am looking to make a move to MD, possibly Eastern Shore somewhere Chestertown or North, or North East, Elkton area. My job is very flexible, I cover MD,DE,PA & NJ, so I need to be someplace sort of central, but 2-3 hour drives are the norm. Looking to spend <250K, need at least 3 bedrooms. Anyone have any areas they'd reccomend?
I sure do - - - live anywhere but Maryland if you have the choice !
The taxes are horrible, your auto insurance will increase (mine doubled), housing is priced at twice the real "value" (my house tripled in 10 years - - - how is that possible ? ? ?). The highways are overcrowded, the cities are drug and gang infested slums.
You cannot even get out of the area without going through a major metro area or a long detour.
The only good thing about Maryland is the bay (and it is in decline) but you can have that by living in Virginia or Delaware.
I would reccommend West Virginia, Virginia, PA, or Delaware - - - that is where I am searching for my retirement home !
You could have a small farm or a really nice house for your 1/4 Mil in those states - - - here you will find a dump or a condo !
Chestertown is great. Easton is one of top 100 small towns for retirement in the USA (book by the same name). Centerville is good also. My auto insurance was halved...so I guess its where you come from. I would definitely be on the eastern shore...less traffic...less crime...great fishing. Been here since 1999 and love it. Good luck on your search. You may call Chris Atkis410-820-8424 and say that Chris Vesper recommended you call. (I'am just a friend of Chris and not affiliated with him in any way).
Ditto what Chris said . Although property values are skyrocketing here on the Shore , you can still find great deals . The bonus is all of the fishing and hunting places you can discover by simply taking a drive with map in hand[wink]
There are alot of nice little towns in Md. Checkout Northeast,To Perryville area. Even checkout Conowingo and Rising Sun, they are still close to marinas and ramps. Also Md is called the free state so people who think the taxes are high and property is to expensive are free to leave anytime they want.
I'd recommend Delaware from the states you mentioned. No sales tax and good fishing (and casinos) nearby. If it weren't for the job and my granddaughter keeping my wife in MD, I'd be oughta here!!!
I lived in Chestertown, MD and now live in North Wilmington. Call me crazy, but I like North Wilmington better. If your work demands driving, you may want to look at Northeast (great town), Charlestown etc. If driving is a no issue, consider Cecilton, Earleville, Chesapeake City. Really a matter of personal choice.
I cover a pretty big area in sales, I moved to Colora which borders Port Deposit, I love it, But If I had a choice I would look in part of Cecil and Calvert/St Mary.s county
Call Wendy at 4438071371 shes a realtor in Northeast Md
