    "Brandon,
Thanks for all the great work.
The site has been dragging for about 2 months now. I log on every morning for a couple of hours and frequently in the afternoon.
My suggestion is to push the non-subscribers to join; might ease the financial burden on all of us."

I must say the I agree 100% about the non subscribers. Come on folks. For a new subscription it's only $12.00, the cost of a dz. bloodworms. That's only 3 cents a day for all the knowledge you're gaining.

What I suggest is to allow the non subscribers 10 free posts. After that you become a LURKER. Yep that's right, change the Non-Subscribed status to Lurker status.

    Anyone else have any thoughts?

I couldn't agree more! It seems a lot of the negative posts come from non-subscribers. It's a great board guys and gals but it costs money to keep the technology current.

I know I get a lot of information for the cost of a subscription. It is worth it just for the great people you meet, not just for the help and information you get. [wink]

i don't want to argue with anyone, but here's my opinion.

i recently found the site and do enjoy it. good info everywhere.

$12 is not a big deal. we all know that. i only question what that goes to. i frequent hundreds of sites that charge nothing, including forums. my primary stop is iboats.com, with 90,450 current members. charging for the use of their forums has never entered a topic.

it's a fine line. if you make the forums free, you get a ton of traffic and use. charge to enter, and you'll turn away 100's. making it optional seems to just cause problems.

i suggest the owner decide what he really wants and go with it.

I think non subscribers should be allowed to Lurk but not post. If you want to check the site out as a Lurker before you subscribe that is fine. If you enjoy what you see here and feel you can contribute then by all means subscribe and get on board. The knowledge and the friends you wil make as a subscriber and contributor is priceless. Non subscribers who jump in here and cause trouble because they enjoy the fact they can hide behind a computer have caused some of our best posters to leave.

$12 is a drop in the bucket for what is presented on this website. Its one of the best bargains to be had for information and entertainment (even if the site is running slow). I can now finally say that as of this morning[grin], since I finally chipped in[angel]

    This comes up often.

I understand the feelings of those who "believe" everyone should be a subscriber. What I can't seem to comprehend is the ability of those same people to put members in a "class" according to suscribers or non-subscribers.

It ain't that difficult - membership is free, subscription services are optional.
