Can't comment on the science behind it but this sure sucks imo.Hard enough to find that mako now I gotta use a god damn circle hook.I use the term gotta loosely ,tho I am always in 100% compliance to all laws and regulation?
Talked to Fisheries, and this was the publication of the amendment. 30 days for the rule to be posted, and the effective date to be 30 days after that. Figure on an effective date around April 15. They're not sure how they will emplement shark endorsement for people who have already received permit.
I spoke to the Karyl Brewster Geis lady on the bottom of the page, and she told me that this was the proposal and if the amendments or whatever were passed it would not be until next year.
I do a lot of shark fishing and I am NOT a fan of circle hooks for that--- I use them on many other species but have had very limited success on sharks. I know others will not agree and have caught good sharks on circles but I feel that the size of the jaw bone on big makos are very tought for a circle hook to get around..... When the law tells me I have to use them I will but till then 🐠🐠🐠🐠
We will see can't see how this can be put into a law and on top of that actual apply it. I have had makos strike trolling lures with ballyhoo and they get kept because they are of size. I don't troll any circle hooks
Well you see they got a new placard that you hang off your chum bag that says no sharks this is a shark free Zone, same deal as gun free zones to keep criminals away I hear it's pretty effective
