Great detailed report as usual. Sounds like a jon boat trip to Rudee is in order very soon. I got some home made plastics I need to try out. Looking forward to more of your reports.
Hey there fellow seekers of the slime... Went on a fishing journey this morning with my good buddy Darren(carp) via the Yak... Arrived just after 6am at Lynnhaven inlet to find an east wind and incoming tide... Fished the channel edges for a bit and after getting perturbed at the wind headed back towards the grass and oyster bars... Well, collectively we had one bite in 2 hours and then decided to go for "plan B"; Rudee inlet... Arrived around 9:30am and it wasn't too long before I kicked the skunks arse off my yak with a nice Blue caught on a christmas tree colored curly tail on a 1/2oz. chartreuse leadhead... Then as the tide slipped out, we probed the science museum area and further back into the creek with little action and word of only blues around; one guy did say he caught some Grey's, but we never some them.... Well, Darren ventured toward the ocean and I crawled out of the yak onto a sandy point to try some casts and not have to battle the *%$@# wind... Immediately scored a Blue and then lost a real nice looking Trout... fed the Blues some more grubs and then went to see if Darren was fairing any better.... Not much happening except.... WIND.... We worked our way back towards the museum and picked of another Blue and then decided it'd be a good idea to try the aforementioned point since the tide had started to roll in... Darren missed a real good Flattie and then for a 1/2 hour it was time to sing the Blues... Caught them on top and on bottom and we both missed a couple more Flounder hits, although Darren did land one 15" Fish before we ran out of room on the point and paddled some more hoping for Mr. Speck... Well, today it wasn't to be, but we had a blast anyway, and packed it in around 3:30pm for the long, traffic burdened, ride home up the peninsula... The Bay looked nasty as we crept across the HRBT, but the birdies were going off... Wish traffic had gone ahead and come to a complete standstill so we could've done some highway fishing, but no go... Anyway, there are a TON of Bluefish in Rudee right now for those that are interested... One fella said he lost one that was VERY LARGE and he was traveling home with a cooler full of the toothy critters... So, that's todays tale... Hoping to try the Mobjack on Mom's Day for Speck's, and then I'll be in school for 2 weeks and will have to get my shots in during the evenings.... Fish On[grin]
