Homemade Bowling Pin Teaser....

They look like they may be some erratic swimming, marlin taunting, fine pieces of work. I am assuming you turned those on a lath. With the large mouth and the skiny tail, well that just spells "crazy".... I second Lucians paint job suggestion... Please keep us posted on how they pull. Not trying to pee in your cheerios, but since you asked for the opinoins, I'll let loose my only reservation.... With the mouth so big and the tail so small, I think that they may hop around quite a bit. They may "hop" in the wake instead of "swim"..... Just a guess. Pull them, and prove me wrong... .Please... Those are too damn pretty for me to be right.

They look nice. If they should hop around, you could probably add some weight to the tail to make them run better.

They look like they were true bowling pins cut off with a miter saw to me. Where did you find them?

Did you turn those on a lathe??? They look great to me! Chilli may be right, though. Let me know how they swim. I've been experimenting with lathe turned b-pin teasers similar to that. Mine are not quite so chubby. I'm interested to here how they look. My current design I'm working on is a cup faced pin that's longer and narrower then yours. Are yours just wood or do you weight them with lead? Bmail me!

It's just a bowling alley pin with the ends cut off. It is very heavy and that's the only reason I think it will run true. I guess the only thing homemade was the paint....a litte mis-representation. I was hoping to just run a single on each side from my teaser reels. I think with the 30 degree angle off the nose it will dive like a crankbait. Anyways...I only have $2.83 in both. The cost was additional colors of spray paint and the screw in eyes. The next time out on the water I will test it and let you guys know. Any ideas on how long to make leader if I am going to cleat it off and try to run it under my flatline (not including the transom of my boat)?

I don't think those things are going to skip at all. With that big head and 30 degree wedge they should pull like a plane and dive pretty deep. Now if that narrow tail will swim a little they should be awesome!!! I don;t think you are going to be able to handle them on a teaser reel, will probably be like pulling a pretty big planer. You might be able to to move the eye screw around some if they swim to deep, or just change the angle of your cut the next time you saw some up.
I'd put about 10 feet of very heavy mono on them with some really good chaffing gear, maybe even a metal thimble if you can find one small enough, then get out that new fid of yours and splice it to a hand line for the cleat.

You have done a great job with the Pins. Just be careful when you drop them in. I have some experience with large, heavy. teasers and if it breaks the surface LOOK OUT! The 30 degree nose will dive but if the pin rolls it will shoot out of the water at a remarkable speed. The ones I make weight in at roughly 5 pounds and will clear the deck if airborne. Make sure your tow eye is toward the high side of the nose, that will help with roll overs. They are pretty, and you have me thinking about a box of old pins I have in the shed. Oh! one more thing, if your decide to pull them off the stern cleat, retrieve them up the side of your boat. If you pull them off the stern becareful when retrieving. They will dig until they reach the slick water just off the stern then speed up, slamming into the transom. Can't wait you hear your report on them.. JIM
