Default Diawa buys Shimano...new reels to debut

That's what I read yesterday. I'll have to pull the article back up but I also think they are doing away with the product names 'Tiagra', 'Trinidad', and 'Calcutta'. Those lines will all carry a form of the 'Saltiga' name. Except the old Tiagra which will carry the name of Diawa's big lever drag...don't remember the name of that one. They are developing some interesting things into the 'Tiagra' line like twin & quad drags & 6.2:1 gears on the high side. They also said that their 80 & 130 lever drags will have low speed gears somewhere in the .5-.55:1 range. Talk about cranking power!

The main colors of entire product line will be sliver like the Saltiga. Diawa will also be dropping the current Saltiga line although they are incorporating a few of that reels features into the 'Trinidad' frame and rolling the Saltiga name over to that reel.

It also said that after the Diawa/Shiamano transition was over they had their eye on another company. In not so many words they named Quantum as their next acquisition. Keep an ear to the news wire...this could be interesting.

I sure will miss Shimano. Any word on the continuation of Stradics?

I have some 400's and 700's in the Calcutta and really like the way they feel and operate. When the dust settles hopefully "QUALITY" will not suffer.

Someone else told me that international toy maker, Mattel, has aquired OKUMA in a hostile takeover. This one may well be true!

The latter of the two should be true based on what I've read from this website...

Man, I haven't gotten anyone today... I need to think of something quick!
