    Default Any TLD25 line suggestions?

[grin] In December I bought a boat with long enough legs to reach bluewater and just now secured my first quiver of offshore gear and need suggestions on line for TLD25s. I have been very pleased with trilene big game mono and offshore anglers spectra for bay and nearshore fishing but realize that blue water offers significantly different challenges.

I have heard of using spectra on the TLDs with a mono topshot but do not know the advanteges/disadvantages. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also would like to know if my 113h senators with 50lb mono will hold up out there.

When I was 18 I worked on a private sf yacht and got a little time in as mate, capt, and the like but that was 22 years ago and I am not confident that I could duplicate the sucesses that we had back then. I would welcome a HO or be willing HO for you to get some experience.

The idea behind running spectra with a mono top shot is to put a higher strength line on while keeping the same line capacity or increasing it. You need the mono top shop as a shock absorber between the fish and the spectra. Disadvantages are when it is loaded up hard spectra can slice therough fingers and anything else that might get wrapped up in it, and that if you tangle it on the troll you'll never get it undone. The 4/0 should be ok for a flat line reel or maybe a short rigger.

Personally for the TLD 25's and 20's I like to use 40# and 30# respectively. Really any of the major brands of line will do nicely. Alot of guys like the Momoi blue diamond. Personally I prefer either Pink Ande or High VIs Momoi or Suffix.

    The senators will work fine.

Personally I like to stick with ande because its good enough line and its not to expensive. I tend to go with a bit lighter line to get the line capacity. I run 40lbs on my 113senator. I use a 80 to 100ibs wind on leader on this rig. I figure most fish are lost close to the boat so I go with the wind-on leader on this setup so I can get a couple of yards of heavy line on the reel when it really going to count. Right at the boat.

Almost any of the good brands of mono will do anything you ask of them, most of them overtest at least 30%. The one Im becoming very fond of is Yozuri Hybrid. Its very abrasion resistant and is virtually impervious to UV light. My limited testing of 15# shows a 25# break test uniformly with a bimini. the line always letting go in the single strand. If this can be extrapolated then 30# = 50 in reality and a TLD 25 should hold 600 YD of 50# equivalent line. Boaters World or WM both carry it at good prices. Comes in 3? colors. Does have some memory. Ilike to mix line types and/or colors to help clear tangles. The comment about braid being impossible to untangle is very real, having done that on more than one occasion, but I learn slowly. (dont pull diving plugs with the rest of a normal offshore spread) Hope this is some use.
