A day off and a good day of fishing, whats better? Cleared Rudee at 5:00 and off to the Lumps. First Bluefin hit the blue and white cedar plug at 7:15, FISH ON. Father in laws first offshore trip and first tuna. We released 7 BFT at the lumps, all schoolies from 28"-30", all caught on a cedar plug, and 5 bluefish. The action was good but we needed a Yellow, so off to the SE we go. Couldn't find a temp break so we decided to troll back towards home at 12:00pm. Had the Bird GM WTFB and bamm, 35"BFT. father in law's friend loved pulling in that one. 5 minutes later the flatline goes off with a pink squid daisy chain, Father in law allready had the belt on and was waiting, and this is a good fish. Only had 30lb on the TLD25 so we couldn't really muscle him. 45 minutes later we see color and its a good fish. Get hold of the leader, pull him to the top of the water, he ain't ready, and he takes off, only problem was father in law thought I had him and put the rod down, then tried to pick it up when the fish ran again SNAP, DAMN.......my fault totally for not giving the proper directions, but it was NICE to see BFT that big. I aint never seen a 100lb+ tuna but this fish was over 40" for sure, and he hit my home made daisy. Gotta luv it. Crew was tired from the excitement of just seeing a large fish so we took off back to the dock and home in time for dinner.
