I have seen this and thought is was blood from where the fish wasn't bleed good.???
over the weekend i was given some fresh tuna steaks so I just finished eating dinner and i look down and notice that there seems to be small thin red threads that look like blood vessels within the meat that look similar to the worms/parasites i see in freshwater fish (crappie. bass, etc. ) Is this what they are? i would really like to find out since i still have about 4 steaks that i have already grilled as we speak. thanks!

I just went and cooked the other 4 steaks to make tuna salad and the red things seem to have turned brown. My wife will freak if she found out they were worms, she has already had 2 steaks and I keep coming up here to check on the replys to see if she is eating worms or not!
Good Stuff........Probably just veins.....never heard of the tunas having worms.
Veins.... Just be sure to bleed the fish beofre throwing them in the box.. It makes all the difference..
Sounds like viens to me. I see it all the time except they are more like the color of the meat. A good soaking in fresh water with a generous amount of salt should draw out all the blood...... and make it taste better too. Just make sure to soak it in clean water afterwards to get the salt out.
Do you always use your wife as the guinnepig?[grin]
I do.[grin]
Veins for sure - as was said before bleeding them will make the difference.
thanks Guys! i will be soaking the the other 2 loins today- as for the wife- i couldnt stop her once i saw the vessels- she would have made me throw it away- ALL of it! thanks again for the info!
tuna can definitely have worms. Have cleaned a few myself that had them. BUt the ones I have seen were white and wiggling!! EhhhhhhhWe ate em anyway though. After cooking a little more well done than we typically do tuna!!
