Did anyone read the fishing article in today's VA Pilot sports section regarding gaffing and releasing Dolphin???

Hey Lou,
I think Al B had a post going on the other board that may pertain to the article. I have not read it, if you could post a link that would be cool.
Unless you can perfectly lip gaff a fish I think it's wrong to gaff and release. The fish have a better chance if you cut the leader and leave them with the hook.
Just my 2 cents.
Basically it talks about the VA Saltwater Tournament committee needing to re-think the rules when it comes to releasing a fish for a citation. Currently gaffing and releasing a fish for a citation is not spelled out clearly or specifically in the rules of the tournament therefore a gaffed fish could be returned to the water for a release citation. That’s what I get out of it anyway.
IMHO this should be a no-no regardless where a fish is gaffed.

what a joke ! from what I gather she brought the fish onboard thinking it would weigh above 25lbs fish did not make the weight, but was long enough to make it for a release . so back in the drink it goes ,at least the sharks ate well . the citation is nice ,just not my way to get it .

Personally I think that all states should do away with citations. I think too many people get caught up in "citation fever"... like it really means anything. Its just a peice of paper. I'd rather have a photo.
