    Default CLASSIC HOOKER 9/22

Departed OC inlet 0615 hrs with crew of 1 - Wilde1 - and arrived at 30fa lump to chunk with 20 other boats. No pulls, so picked up and went to Wash Tip to troll thru heavy weeds for several hours, then trolled north on the 50fa line until 1530, when we hit a well defined weed line and trolled up 6 nice mahis. We covered lots of distance and worked hard keeping lines clear of weeks. Most other boats on radio reported only mahi and few tuna. Seas were nearly flat all day, but last 25 mi a 15-20 knot wind came up and hammered us with 4ft very steep seas. Hundreds of dolphins at the Wash, plus a small whale on 30fa lump. It was nearly impossible to troll anywhere that we went.

Van, the 30f lumps were loaded w/boats weren't they? After we ran out of chunks we took the same route as you. We stopped at the tip of the Washington and worked our way N N/W back into 40f. Some of the weed lines were very well defined and were superb trolling candidates as they didn't have scattered weed about. Only problem were those pesky greenish-blue bluefish were ravenous.
